Do I have to be a freshman to audition?
No, we encourage students at every grade level to audition, including graduate students.
How many spots do you have open this semester?
We do not set a limit on the group size. If you are what we are looking for, we will accept you, regardless of the number of active members
What do I have to prepare for my audition?
Prepare a contemporary solo of your choice that shows off your vocal ability, sytle, and personality. Most importantly, choose a song that fits and that you enjoy singing, and have a good time with it!
How long does my solo have to be?
One verse and one chorus.
Are there callbacks?
We hose callbacks the weekend after the preliminary auditions. Auditioness will be contacted by phone and email if they receive a callback
What if I cant make it to your auditions?
Please Email us at chordials@cornell.edu, and we will work around your schedule.
What is the time commitment for your group?
We practice three times a week for a total of seven hours, and more rehearsals are added before major concerts. We also perform many gigs throughout the semester.
Auditions make me nervous. Any suggestions?
Relax and be yourself. We understand that it can be tough to audition in front of a group of people, but just do your best. We are rooting for you!
I want to audition for many a cappella groups on campus, but they both have auditions at the same time. Can I audition for both, or do I have to choose one?
You may audition for as many a cappella groups as you'd like and you do not have an obligations to join our group if you are offered a spot. If you are having trouble finding a time to audition, please email us at chordials@cornell.edu
What happens if I get more than one group
A cappella can beome a significant, if not all-consuming part of your college experience, so you want to make sure that you've chosen the right group for you. If you are accepted into more than one group, the choice is completely yours and we will always support your decision. Also, in the event that you are accepted into a grop before having the chance to audition for others that interest you, we encourage you to audition for those groups. If you are accepted into more than one group, it is up to you to decide which group to choose. We will always support your decision.
